Create 1 large Carnation, 2 medium Carnations, 3 Carnation buds, and 6 stems of Baby’s Breath. For the large Carnation, punch 10 Floriano shapes in red cardstock and 1 Highland Snowflake in the light olive green cardstock. For each medium Carnation, punch 8 Floriano Shapes in red cardstock and 1 Highland Snowflake in the light olive green cardstock. For each Carnation bud, punch 5 Floriano shapes in red cardstock and 1 Sun shape in light olive green cardstock. Punch 3 sets of Star Lily shapes for Carnation leaves. For the Baby’s Breath, punch 6 Pine shapes in light olive green cardstock.
-
Cut edges of petals on each Floriano shape using Deckle Edge scissors.
-
Place shapes on the Craft Molding Mat. Using the 8mm stylus, press down as you move the tool in a circular motion over the entire paper shape to soften the paper.
-
Snip between the petals almost to the center of the flower. Rub outer edges of petals on both sides with Aged Mahogany ink pad.
-
Place tweezers in center of a petal and with fingers over the tweezer tips twist the tool around as you wrap the petal shape over it. Hold petal tight after releasing tweezers to keep shape. It should have an “S” shape.
-
With the tweezers, fold sides of the petals either both towards the back or the front to make an accordion fold. Squeeze each petal together to further tighten the accordion folds.
-
Gather the petals in a bunch and pinch the end to compact the petals.
-
To create the flower bases, shape and cup the Large Highland Snowflake for large Carnations and the Sun for buds using the 8mm ball stylus on the Craft Molding mat. Push cupped shape into center tape roll or similar to keep the cupped shape.
-
Over scrap paper or a non-stick craft mat, place glue on the pinched end of the petals and glue into the cupped Snowflake. Glue in as many petal bunches as you can. Then remove the Snowflake from holder and continue adding more petals around the edges until desired fullness is achieved. Snip apart the last 2 or 3 flower shapes to add individually to fill into any gaps.
-
Select 2 or 4 shapes from the green Star Lily shapes. Trim leaves thinner by snipping each side. Soften shapes following #3 above. The #1mm stylus can be used to add thin veining details to each leaf. Rub edges with Peeled Paint Distress ink pad to add color depth to leaves. Dip the end of each leaf in glue and attached around the base of the flower to complete.
-
Paint the outside of the papier maché box and inside lid with black acrylic paint. Paint the inside bottom of the box with lime green acrylic paint.
-
Cut 1 or 2 strips of paper from the Wasabi dots paper to the height of the box. The box used for this project is 4” in diameter by 2¼” tall and needed 2 strips. If the box is smaller you may only need one strip of paper to wrap around the inside. Glue paper strips around the inside of the box overlapping the ends a little.
-
Trace around the box lid and the bottom of the box on the Wasabi dots paper and cut out the 2 circles of paper. You may need to trim each circle to get a good fit. Glue paper circles inside the lid and bottom of the box.
-
Glue the 5/8” red & black brocade ribbon around the outside rim of the lid. Tie a separate bow with more ribbon and glue to the rim over the ribbon band.
-
Assemble 1 large Carnation, 2 small Carnations and 3 Carnation buds. Buds are created by gluing 5 Floriano petals into a cupped Sun. Add glue up the sides of the Sun shape when attaching petals to keep the bud closed.
-
Create Baby’s Breathe (6) to add to the arrangement. With a hat pin or toothpick, add glue to the tips of the Pine shape and then dip into White Flower Soft. Shake off excess. Continue to add glue until all the tips have been covered.
-
Cut the styrofoam ball in half and paint with black acrylic paint to create small pedestals. Flatten the round top of each half slightly to allow flowers to sit close to the box.
-
Glue the large Carnation and 1 medium Carnation to the styrofoam bases. Arrange and glue all the flowers to the box top. Add leaves and Baby’s Breathe around the arrangement as desired and to hide the Styrofoam bases .
